Georges St-Pierre shuts down rumored Michael Bisping fight at UFC 206

For a moment, there appeared to be a light at the end of the tunnel in the ongoing battle between Georges St-Pierre and the UFC. After St-Pierre declared himself as a free agent, the UFC drew their line in the sand and stated that the former champion was still under contract.

On Tuesday, Michael Bisping took to Twitter and said that he “verbally agreed” to a fight with St-Pierre at UFC 206 in Toronto, which would be a homecoming of sorts for GSP. The UFC middleweight champion added that the UFC and GSP had been “negotiating this fight for the last few days.” All Bisping was waiting for was St-Pierre’s signature to make the fight come to fruition.

However, St-Pierre responded to Bisping’s claims by welcoming the fight, but quickly refuted that a deal was ever in place. In a video posted on St-Pierre’s Twitter account, the French-Canadian said he met with WME-IMG CEO Ari Emanuel while in Las Vegas last week and “made peace” with UFC president Dana White. But the thought of a fight with Bisping was quickly dashed.

“Nothing would make me more happy in the world than to fight you in Toronto, Michael,” St-Pierre said. “Last week, I met with Ari and I made peace with Dana. I tried to resolve things, but unfortunately right now it’s not happening. Hopefully, things will change soon. Thank you.”

With that ends the latest chapter in the ongoing GSP vs. UFC saga. With no clear end in sight, there is no telling how long this disagreement between both parties will drag out.
