Jason Kipnis celebrated so hard he hurt himself
All baseball injuries are unfortunate, but there’s one kind that is slightly more unfortunate than others: the celebration injury. Chris Coghlan tore his meniscus while delivering a shaving cream pie to Wes Helms in 2010. Kendrys Morales broke his leg while stepping on home plate after hitting a walk-off grand slam, also in 2010.
There have been more over the years, and now in the 2016 playoffs we can add another to the list: Cleveland Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis, who sprained his ankle while celebrating the end of Game 5 of the American League Championship Series with Francisco Lindor.
Got a little too close to @Lindor12BC during the celebration!! Freak accident but should be good to go by Tuesday! #cantkeepmeoutofthisgame! pic.twitter.com/2DKgpzP0lq

The photo collage that Kipnis tweeted is brilliant, and it shows you exactly where the injury occurred. Photo one: happy face jumping embrace! Photo two: awkward left foot landing and grimace of pain. Photo three: hopping on one foot and a face that almost says “oh crap.”
Kipnis’ injury isn’t nearly as serious as Coghlan’s or Morales’. Coghlan missed 71 games due to his injury, and Morales missed 111 games AND the entirety of the following season. According to Terry Francona, Kipnis is expected to be ready to play on Tuesday for the World Series opener.
Francona: Kipnis is dealing with a low ankle sprain. Expected to be OK. Went through fielding drills today.

Whew. It’s tough for anyone to contain themselves when they’re filled with such overwhelming joy, but a message to all baseball players: be careful!
